Prologue: Basic Self Defense Movements for The 5 Elemental Fists
First thing's first: Survival. The first question that must be answered by any martial artist or system is, “Can you fight?” If the answer is no, all the rest doesn't matter. So before we get into the full Xing Yi program you learn how to fight with each fist. These methods are simple and direct so you can learn them quickly. You learn how to be “suddenly quick” so you can overwhelm the opponent before they see you move. Real fights are MESSY. ...but many teachers and even some MASTERS seem to have forgotten this. They’ll start with every maddening detail of the technique. ...Nit picking every little thing... Problem is, in the beginning, when the adrenaline kicks in all that detail goes out the window and you’re left with gross motor movements. So, in the beginning, we keep it simple, direct and powerful. If you've had some previous Xing Yi training the first couple chapters may seem almost stupidly simple. By the end of this program, you’ll be mixing and matching complex ‘energetics’ fighting principles and movements... ...and you’ll be able to USE it in a fight. ...but ONLY because you started with simple application and an in depth study of the fundamentals.
